Foxfire Village was founded in 1967 when it was transformed into a scenic resort and residential community. Named for a mysterious luminescence seen on plants and decaying wood the area is historically significant as the site of an American Revolution skirmish between the Tories and the Whigs in 1780 and was a favorite hunting site for Native Americans before that.
